In December 2024, Bloodjoy unleashed ‘Bloodjoy Remixes (Part One)’, starring four artists who have previously released albums on his record label, Sister 9 Recordings. The EP features remixed versions of songs by psych-dream-gazers, Frankie Teardrop Dead, Venician darkwave/post-punks, Kill Your Boyfriend, psychedelic masters, JuJu and Bloodjoy’s historic first band—lo-fi/scuzz-rock label-founders—Dolium…
Frankie Teardrop Dead’s ‘Hardmachine’ is the first track to emerge from the S9 Studio having received the Bloodjoy treatment, with its already catchy bassline having been flipped backwards into unfamiliar, yet equally rewarding territory.
Gioele Valenti’s JuJu are next in line, with ‘Clear’; a song featuring Chad Channing (ex-Nirvana). With this remix, it’s also clear that Bloodjoy has carefully crafted a version built to enhance the percussive feel and delicate nature of the track all at one.
Kill Your Boyfriend’s inclusion in the set adds a dark and edgy post-punk flavour to the EP with ‘Buster’. Bloodjoy’s rework of the song makes obvious structural changes, but with subtle adjustments to the original audio in order to keep the band’s sound fully intact.
The final track is an unexpected EDM Remix of an early lo-fi Dolium 4-track demo tape recording, titled ‘PVC (SLM)’. For this one, Bloodjoy enthusiastically took up the challenge to create a classic house/old-skool influenced electronic dance track, and the end result speaks for itself, with enough juice to fill the dance floor.
A video version of the EP has also been released — WATCH HERE — and all four tracks are now available to download for FREE (or Pay What You Like) over at www.sister9.com and soon to stream on all digital platforms.
